| Once again, it has been way too long since I've updated. I now have only 2 weeks left of summer vacation before classes start again. I spent the whole morning arranging the HelpDesk schedule and buying my textbooks. Recent news: - I'm engaged!!! Tom proposed at the beginning of May and we are thoroughly enjoying this stage of our relationship.
- I worked for a summer migrant program in Kent City. My role was a teacher aide for a third grade class. Very good experience.
- Umm... that's about it. I'm enjoying spending time with family and friends until I move back to school.

| Wow, Interim always goes by fast (in retrospect). My last class was on Wednesday and the last week was pretty sweet - teaching 2nd graders was a great experience and I learned a lot. It's nice to have a break though - Spring semester starts on Tuesday. Yesterday I worked at the HelpDesk and I am today for a little while. This afternoon I'm going skiing with Tom, Pete, and Amy. I'm super pumped about that. It's Tom's birthday today, so this will be a fun way to celebrate. I have been sorting my Honduras pictures and trying to figure out which ones to print. I'm debating if I should I really print more than 500 pictures.... I'll try to reduce. I think scrapbooking is out of the question. I'm going home for at least part of the weekend. | | |
| Well, I'm back in the United States (sorry it's been a while) - I got back December 12. My last week in Honduras was really great and leaving was bittersweet. It was sad to leave my "family" and "home" in Honduras (and not knowing if I would ever go back), but I was also really happy to see my family and friends here. Christmas break was a whirlwind of parties, catching up with people, and readjusting to American culture. Some things were really easy to fall back into, but sometimes there were struggles. For example, coming back during the holidays, going to the mall and seeing all the advertising to sell their overpriced products really reminded me that I was back in the US. The idea of giving gifts when you don't want to and recieving a bunch of things that you don't need is strange to me. Sometmes it's fun, but hat's not the point of Christmas. The sad part is that I still want a lot of things I don't need (but think I need), but I don't want to get sucked into this materialism that is everywhere. I want to be different... changed. It's something I'll have to continue to check myself on. Tuesday I moved into my new apartment at Calvin across the Beltline. I am living with one girl during Interim and our other roommate is traveling for Interim and will be back for the spring semester. There is so much space! The bedroom I have to myself during Interim is practically the size of my dorm room. Last night Tom and I went grocery shopping and now I'm stocked to make my own food. I'm getting back into the rythmn of normal life now. Class started on Thursday; I'm taking World Language Pedagogy and so far I'm enjoying it. | | |
| Yesterday I just got back from Nicaragua. We went as a class Monday through Friday to visit different cities and learn about the history. There are a lot of sad things that have happened, but a lot of people are working to make things better now. It was good to see a different area of Central Americal. I think all of us are ready to go home. I will be glad to see all of my family and friends. My family put up their Christmas tree this past week. It helps remind me that Christmas is close, although it doesn`t feel cold and there is no snow. My flight comes in GR at 11:30 Wednesday night. See you all soon. | | |
